The Incorporated Church Building Society was founded in 1818 to provide funds for the building and enlargement of Anglican churches throughout England and Wales. It was the principal voluntary Society for promoting the building and restoration of churches throughout the most active period of church building since the Middle Ages.

As this page continues to grow, I have now begun to sort them roughly by geographical area: Ashton-under-Lyne, Ancoats, Audenshaw, Charlesworth, Chinley, Clayton, Denton, Dukinfield, Gorton, Hayfield, Hollinfare, and on a separate page, Hyde, Manchester Cathedral, Marple/Bredbury, Mossley, Mottram and Stalybridge.

St Michael and All Angels, Ashton-under-Lyne
The original parish church for the Ashton area, founded in the 13th century, although it is believed that it has its origins in the St Helen's Church mentioned in the Domesday Book. Left is the exterior, hard to photograph because the car park is usually full from people shopping in the town. Second left is the three-tiered pulpit, part of the Victorian rebuilding. Next is the altar featuring the 15th century stained-glass windows. Finally, a Prestwich gravestone which can be found to the right as you face the main door.
